ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (60 Credits)
The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is a UK Ofqual-regulated qualification within the ATHE International Access Programme, designed to provide learners with a comprehensive introduction to the health and social care sector.
It is intended for learners who wish to begin a career in health and social care, prepare for higher-level study, or develop the knowledge and academic skills required for progression into professional practice.
Qualification Overview
The qualification introduces learners to the organisation of health and social care services, the principles and values that underpin effective care, and the roles and responsibilities of professionals working across the sector. What You Will Study
This qualification consists of six mandatory units that provide a strong foundation in health and social care knowledge, professional practice, and academic skills. Teaching and Learning Approach
The programme is delivered through structured teaching blocks supported by tutor-led sessions, guided learning, classroom discussion, case studies, independent research, and assignment preparation.
Learning focuses on developing both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of health and social care. Learners explore current legislation, professional values, safeguarding responsibilities, communication techniques, and person-centred approaches while developing the academic skills required for higher-level study. Independent study, collaborative learning, critical reflection, and evidence-based practice are integrated throughout the programme.
Entry Requirements
This programme is designed for learners aged 16 and above. Typical entry profile includes:
- Five or more GCSEs at Grade 4 (Grade C) or above, or
- A relevant Level 2 qualification, or
- Equivalent international qualifications, or
- Relevant work or voluntary experience (subject to assessment)
English language requirement (for non-native speakers): IELTS 5.5 or equivalent (CEFR B2 level). Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be considered where appropriate.
Assessment Methodology
Assessment is completed through internally assessed coursework assignments. Learners are assessed against ATHE learning outcomes and may achieve Pass, Merit, or Distinction grades.

All assessments are internally assessed and subject to external quality assurance by ATHE.
